About

I'm a joint PhD Candidate in Germanic Studies and Cinema & Media Studies at the University of Chicago. I currently hold a Residential Dissertation Completion Fellowship at the Franke Institute for the Humanities, and am co-organizer of the Mass Culture Workshop.

My research and teaching focus on the intersections of environmental humanities, international cinema, and 20th–21st century German film, literature, and culture. My dissertation, Blue Media in Green Germany, combines these interests in order to study the politics and aesthetics of climate change. I've taught and TA'd courses on topics in silent era cinema, Holocaust memory culture, formal film analysis, gender and sexuality, and German language.

In 2026, I won the Dean's Award for Graduate Student Teaching Excellence at the University of Chicago. My research and teaching has also been supported by grants from the Pozen Family Center for Human Rights, Fulbright Austria, and the Division of the Arts and Humanities at the University of Chicago.

My academic writing is forthcoming in Germanic Review, New Review of Film & Television Studies, Monatshefte, and elsewhere. My translations and criticism can be found in TRANSIT, Chicago Review, and Monatshefte.

I graduated with a B.A. in Comparative Literature from Reed College, an M.A. in Germanic Studies from the University of Chicago, and have studied at the universities of Oxford, Tübingen, and Vienna.
